Inaugural webinar of the Mediterranean Energy Talks (MEETs)

Energy, technology and trade nexus in the Mediterranean

An open dialogue on the region’s challenges and opportunities: amid ecological transition and interregional cooperation

Mediterranean Energy Talks (MEETs) is a new series of events promoted by WEC Italy and OMEC to shine a spotlight on the strategic role of energy in the Mediterranean and its growing connection with technology and trade.

"The energy, technology and trade nexus in the Mediterranean. Implications for the region and its relations with key global players", inaugural talk of the series, took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 involving Houda Ben Jannet (Director General, OMEC), Marco Margheri (Chairman, WEC Italy), Ferid Belhaj (Former Vice President of the World Bank for the MENA Region), Paul Noumba (Former Regional Director of the Infrastructure Department, World Bank, MENA Region) and Enrico Petrocelli (Head of International Institutional Relations, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti; Secretary General, D20 Long-Term Investors Club) for an open discussion on the main challenges facing the Mediterranean region. These range from supply security to the need for stronger cooperation among countries; as well as the evolving dynamics of ecological and digital transition.

The Mediterranean is increasingly recognized as a strategic crossroads between Europe, Africa and the Middle East; while also being a hotspot for geopolitical tensions, climate change and calls for deeper energy integration. In this context, the webinar served as a valuable opportunity to explore concrete solutions, models of cooperation and shared visions for a more sustainable and resilient future.

Held in English and open to the public; the event featured distinguished speakers from institutional, industrial and academic backgrounds, who provided complementary perspectives on the economic and geopolitical implications of energy in the Mediterranean. Below you can find the full recording of the first webinar and the findings of the debates.

Over the coming months, new events from the MEETs series will continue to focus on key topics for the energy sector and the development of the region. To stay informed about upcoming events or to request more information; please contact: segreteria@wec-italia.org
