This will broaden our ambition and will allow the FEL community to actively engage in line with the Council’s new strategy.”
Solutions for Africa at the 10th Energy Indaba
Leading figures within the African energy scene convened at the 10th Annual Africa Energy Indaba, the World Energy Council’s annual African regional meeting. This year, the event showcased some inspiring stories coming out of Africa that highlight business models for rural energy access that successfully combine innovative approaches to data, finance and renewables. It also demonstrated that African countries have not only big hopes and enthusiasm for the energy future, but also the potential for energy transition leapfrog developments and successful regional energy integration.
Join us at World Energy Week 2018
Innovation, new technologies, resilience and energy access are topics set to be high on the agenda at this year’s World Energy Week in Milan. The week-long event hosted by the Council’s Italian member committee, 8 – 11 October, will offer a wide range of activities and networking opportunities for the global energy community. The event will also host the Council’s major governance meetings culminating in a full Executive Assembly Plenary.
India addresses the fourth energy revolution
The energy sector is going through a grand transition as energy entities across the value chain adapt through innovation, collaboration and adoption of new business models. The 7th India Energy Congress, organised by the Council’s Indian member committee, convened energy leaders within India and from across the globe under the theme ‘Energy 4.0- Energy Transition towards 2030’. Piyush Goyal, Minister for Coal, said India should strive for 50 per cent of its power generation capacity from renewable sources by 2030 on the back of technological advancements in solar and wind energy.
Call for experts
As part of the transformational process we are revising our approach to expert’s involvement in Council activities and will extend opportunities for relevant experts to join and contribute to the new content agenda. The call for experts will be sent to member committees very shortly, please make sure to keep an eye out for the informational e-mail. Member committees will be kindly invited to nominate experts to join Project Teams and various Working Groups across the Council’s work programmes.
After sharing information on the content agenda and opportunities for expert involvement, we will make sure to organise calls for members. We kindly ask you to use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have to ensure other members benefit from the answers.
Innovation: Start Up Energy Transition (SET) Awards – For action
We would like to thank all member committees for their enthusiasm and active participation in promoting the 2018 SET Awards and nominating reading jury members. Over 400 quality applications came from 68 countries with exciting innovations to be seen across all six categories! The 96 reading jury members – of which 30% come directly from the Council’s communities – have selected the Top 100 start-ups, and the final high-level jury will decide on the winners after live pitching during the Tech Festival on April 16th in Berlin! We will now focus on engaging and capturing the insights from innovators, including an Innovators Issues Monitor, ensuring that the Council’s network is recognised as leading the innovation agenda through active participation at the Tech Festival and Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue events.
Florence Mazzone, takes this opportunity to send her thank you and best wishes to all of you as she heads for maternity leave and hands over the management of the Platforms and Academy work to Francisco Galtieri ([email protected]).
