WEC Italian National Committee hosted the
20th World Energy Congress – Rome 2007 - from the 11th to the 15th of November 2007, bringing this prestigious event to Italy for the first time.
WEC Italy was awarded the responsibility of organising the 20th Congress during the
WEC Executive Assembly in 2002 following a final vote on international competition.
In preparing its candidature and organising the Congress WEC Italy received organisational support from MicroMegas Communication and assistance from International and National Institutions and major Italian and International Companies.
The
Organising Committee, set up for the occasion by WEC Italy under the Presidency of Chicco Testa, worked for the 5 years prior to the Congress to draw up an extensive programme of international meetings and discussions focusing on the following theme:
“The Energy Future in an Interdependent World”
Approximately
4000 participants from
120 countries participated in the Rome 2007 programme, which included:
- 2 Keynote Addresses from eminent figures in the energy sector
- 8 Special Addresses with contributions from important international business leaders
- 3 Looking Ahead to present the results of reports carried out by important organisations and groups of international experts
- 6 Roundtables on energy-related issues currently making the news
- 36 Discussion Sessions with 144 papers presented by technical experts, researchers and academics
- 9 WEC Sessions on the results of the 2005-2007 WEC Studies
- 7 Special Sessions run by important businesses and international organisations
- A Ministerial Forum in which a large number of ministers and government officials participated
- A Youth Programme with 4 sessions dedicated to more than 200 young professionals from around 50 different countries
- A Poster Session with approximately 100 multimedia posters presented
- An International Fair of 40,000 m2, more than 300 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors
The Rome 2007 Congress provided an important forum for global dialogue, which was followed with great interest by energy experts and both the national and international media. Its innovative formula and the quality of its scientific, technical and technological contributions have made it the biggest and most important World Congress in the history of WEC.
